Dermaplaning is an ideal precursor to treatments like peels or laser treatments, and can help enhance their efficacy by preparing skin. As an isolated treatment, it fits easily into a busy schedule and does not require recovery or downtime.

Contraindications

Patients with active acne outbreaks, extremely oily skin or solar erythema should not receive this treatment.

Dermaplaning is usually performed on the entire face, but it is also possible to treat the skin on the neck in the same session. All skin types and phototypes (even sensitive skin) can be treated with dermaplaning, except for extremely oily skin and patients with active acne breakouts. Men can receive the treatment as long as they are shaved. A session lasts approximately one hour.

By scraping away dead skin cells and the layer of buildup we all have on our skin, dermaplaning lets skin breathe, frees clogged pores, and allows for a more radiant complexion. This treatment is much more effective than at-home exfoliation.

Your dermaplaning specialist will use a tiny surgical blade to eliminate dead skin cells and fine hair. Most patients are very comfortable throughout the treatment. Dermaplaning may feel similar to shaving or scraping along the skin. This treatment is not painful.

Regular treatments are recommended every four to five weeks.

Dead skin cells can build up again within four to five weeks following treatment, which is why we recommend regular treatments. The positive effects on your complexion can be long-lasting.

You may experience some redness directly following treatment, but can get right back to your regular schedule without delay. Skin will feel smooth and radiant once the redness subsides.
