What Exactly Is Rosacea?

Rosacea is an inflammatory disorder that typically shows up as flushing, visible vessels (telangiectasia), persistent redness, sensitivity, and, for some, acne-like bumps or eye irritation. It most often appears on the cheeks, nose, chin, and forehead, and can flare with triggers like heat, alcohol, stress, spicy foods, and the wrong skincare.

The “Inflammation Within”

Under the microscope, rosacea is a perfect storm of:

  • Vascular hyper-reactivity: blood vessels dilate easily → flushing and visible capillaries
  • Barrier impairment: a leaky moisture barrier → sensitivity and stinging
  • Innate immune overdrive: increased inflammatory mediators → persistent redness & bumps

Our treatments focus on settling these three systems, not just masking redness.

Which Type Do You Have?

  • ERYTHEMATOTELANGIECTATIC (ETR): diffuse redness, flushing, visible vessels
  • PAPULOPUSTULAR: acne-like bumps + background redness
  • PHYMATOUS: thickened skin or enlarged pores (often on the nose)
  • OCULAR: dry, irritated, watery eyes (always see your eye doctor too)

You can have a blend, and it can change over time that’s why your plan should be personalized.

Our Red Lotus Medical Rosacea Method

Refine With IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)

When redness and broken capillaries linger, IPL helps selectively target hemoglobin in superficial vessels reducing diffuse redness and those tiny, stubborn “thread veins.”

Why our IPL approach is different:

  • Rosacea-safe parameters: conservative fluence, longer pulse widths, built-in cooling for comfort
  • Seasonal & skin-tone aware: we schedule around sun exposure and adjust for Fitzpatrick skin types
  • Stacked with calmers: pre- and post-treatment barrier serums and LED red light to lower inflammation
  • Course-based care: typically 3–5 sessions spaced ~4 weeks apart, then maintenance as needed.

Who is a good candidate for IPL?

  • Persistent facial redness and visible vessels
  • Stable skincare routine & diligent SPF use
  • No recent sunburn/self-tan, not pregnant, and no photosensitizing meds

We’ll do a full consultation to confirm safety and expected results for your skin.

What to Expect: Your IPL Journey at Red Lotus

Before your session (7–10 days):

  • Pause retinoids, AHAs/BHAs, scrubs, and self-tanner
  • Avoid unprotected sun; use mineral SPF daily
  • Keep skin calm—no new potentially irritating products

Day of treatment:

  • Skin is cleansed → protective gel applied → precise test spots → full pass(es) on treatment zones
  • You’ll feel brief snaps of light and warmth; cooling calms between pulses

Aftercare (first 48–72 hours):

  • Redness or mild swelling is normal; keep skin cool and hydrated
  • Mineral SPF 30–50, gentle cleanser, bland moisturizer; avoid heat/exercise, alcohol, actives, and hot water
  • Vessels may darken slightly before fading over 1–3 weeks

Results timeline:

  • Many see a more even tone after the first session; best results build over 3–5 sessions, with periodic maintenance depending on your triggers and lifestyle.

It’s important to note that rosacea is not curable, but it is absolutely treatable. Our goal is not simply to suppress symptoms but to retrain the skin to function independently. While some clients need ongoing maintenance treatments  particularly those with advanced vascular issues others maintain their results through skin care alone. What matters most is that each treatment plan is completely customized, based on the client’s unique skin behavior, rosacea subtype, and lifestyle.
